From The Starting Line
violently gasping for cool air
a struggle for muscle and sinew to do your bidding
before you become engulfed in the stampede
that tamps the very landscape flat
gawking at the gauge
popping it into a sixth gear you never knew you had
counting droplets of sweat like rosary beads
realizing the end of the ravine is almost within reach
your feet
eager to pass that exact spot
that flimsy blade of grass
that determines the finish
and exorcises any doubt that resides within
those hollow, shallow breaths
Rebel without a cause
finally has one
Turns the car down dirt road
Grips gravel in rugged tread
No radio
perceived static
A search for the soul
Brakes on top Rustling Hill
Spilling ideas
car door slams
like a rush of expletives
questions dissipate
quiet desecration
Tuning into subtle contemplative
As the wind wrestles with intent
i.It's dark
the exact opposite of when
you pulled your car out of the garage
those last couple summers ago
when it was bright enough to
filter the light in such a way
as to show the many millions
of contaminants floating around haphazardly in
your car
It's that
magical hour when
the streetlamp garnishes the glazed ground
with such a glow
that it fools you into thinking that perhaps
you could traverse the distance
without ever being detected
that the snow could potentially bear the weight
of one as light as yourself
knowing full well that you would leave
a mark of your presence
I have seen you...
Oh I have misse
And I love you
the way I'm supposed to
where every single minute
every second is sublime
And I want to
just cherish and protect it
cause often I forget
that we've only so much time
The letters that you wrote me
so dear and important
please know that I wouldn't
trade them for the world
Always black and blue
this life so cruel, unkind
but as long as I have you
I know that I'll be fine
And I Love You

Are We There Yet?
I must be mistaken
because right now you're the one
that looks like
a deer in the headlights
Come on snap out of it
you've been on this route for hours
and there's that dusty map in the corner
that begs the question "Do you even
know what road you're on?"
half a tank turns into
a few more miles
which quickly changes to
"Where's the next gas station?"
the distance between every streetlamp
transforms into a chasm spanning eternity
to the frail human mind
as you occasionally drift across
that double yellow line
Come on just give me a picket fence
a hammock between some poplar trees
where I can relax and shoot the breeze

I went to the upstairs bathroom after long thoughts about this world, my life, effort required, expectations, simple things through a complex scope. I am 17. Longer brown helmet hair I have somehow acquired without wearing one. There are stray blondes from my mother, a tint of red from her father, and a couple of grays I'm sure. Staring into the mirror blue-gray eyes; a result of seeing the world and being mostly indifferent, on a shorter wavelength that the rest I suppose. It's hard to tell what the true color is since this light casts a shadow right where my blue young but worn eyes are and should be. My lower eyelids are slightly more pink

Victorious In Death
Harsh words were not enough
so we drew swords instead
but those swords were double-edged
hurting many, sparing few
guess that's the price you pay
Are you surprised? It's nothing new
neither one will get their way
Just when you're past the last line of defense
just when you think that's all that is left
I introduce to you the real offence:
The bow...
angled high in the sky
releases the arrow
aimed for truth, for justice
Bulls-eye.
Leeches life but you defy
breeches your armor and with it
everything you stand for
Still why..
why do you
struggle to continue?
You should be stooped to one knee; nothing more should be left
